He attempts to calm his life by implementing self-imposed rules and routines in a way that makes his day as functional and meaningful as possible. The film is an open and poetic depiction of coping with philosophical nothingness encoded in symbolism.

CELL PORTFOLIO < > Client: Kunsthal Rotterdam Year: 2021 Media art installation and series of performances | 2019-2021 Diverse lengths | Mixed Media CELL is an avant-garde media art installation that stimulates contemplation on the interplay between technology, art, and human creativity. This boundary-pushing project converges diverse artistic disciplines, including audiovisual performance, video art, electronic music, spatial design, and sonology, to craft an immersive and captivating experience. CELL is a Gesamtkunstwerk created through a collaboration of audiovisual artists, musicians, and students from the Delft University of Technology and the Willem de Kooning Academy Rotterdam, orchestrated and directed by Barkode.

Artist statement Barkode's projects are not completely finished, but are framed by time, and are thus in a continuous development and inquiry in which the results are in flux. Barkode works from a great interest in the functioning of systems and the influence of time in both dramaturgy and form of the work. Systems that investigate, uncover and provide meaning to a particular balance or imbalance. The concept of time gives coherence, — Zeitgeist and/or Randomness . These studies try to focus on (re)defining existential values and tell micro-stories from a fragmented world. ​ Part of Barkode's working method is building and designing databases, diary series and encyclopaedias. These archives form a basis from which the work arises in editing, performance or screening. Hardware and software play an intrinsic role in the development and realisation of the projects, as a set-of-tools or from an implementation of algorithms and AI to result into the so-called Freedom of the Machine but also as a theme in the curation of media arts projects. ​ Since 1998, Barkode has been developing media art such as audio and video performances, films and video artworks, installations, sound artworks, music compositions, radio and podcasts. Barkode Studio curates and produces interdisciplinary art and culture programs for festivals, museums and venues. ​ Depending on the nature and size of the project, we work with project managers, producers, designers, scientists, technicians, coders and hackers. Ripple Effect Music Album | 48 min. | Digital Audio I n cooperation with Tamara van Suylekom 2023 Barkode collaborated with Tamara van Suylekom to record the album Ripple Effect over the course of two summer sessions in Worm's sound studio in 2020 and 2021. The album is a dialogue between Barkode's abstract, sonology pieces and Van Suylekom's rhythmic and harmonic electronic compositions.

Utilising a vast personal archive of index cards, this mixed media installation is thoughtfully developed and shaped with rich symbolism, featuring a performance, sound artwork, and short film as spin-offs.It is prominently placed within the confines of a former isolation cell in the historic Noordsingel Prison in Rotterdam.

Employing algorithms and filters, they transformed the photographs and films from the archive, while also capturing new video footage within the museum and around Ed van der Elsken's house. The audio component showcased innovative techniques and centred around sonological sound art.
